Prue Leith Kicks Off the New Year with A Derry Good Bake Off on Rainbow Crutches

From the second it was announced, we knew that the Derry Girls taking on the tent in a Great British Festive Bake Off was going to be a recipe for festive hysterics - and it turned out we were not wrong.

Our Great British Bake Off favourites, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding, Sandi Toksvig and Paul Hollywood were back on 1st January with a fun filled hour of Derry Girls themed baking antics.  The team even dressed up as the Derry Girls themselves, Prue with her Rainbow Cool Crutches on show to give us a much needed injection of fun on New Year's Day!

Cast members including Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney were tasked with making an alcohol-laced sharing trifle for their signature challenge - spurring on a hilariously calamitous kitchen debacle!

With a few of the cast downing their booze as they made their creations, they were truly put through their culinary paces before the judges delivered their verdicts.

Prue & Paul were quick to see the funny side, eventually crowning Saoirse-Monica Jackson Star Baker, despite her never having made a cake before.

She had impressed Paul and Prue with her Irish cream trifle, decorated with green sugar shamrocks, and her 1960s-inspired showstopper cake, while her salmon and beetroot blinis went down well during the technical.

It's been the best start to our New Year and we are truly grateful to Prue and her husband John for choosing Cool Crutches to support Prue whilst she recovers from her recent achilles tendon injury.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and if you haven't had a chance to watch the episode - check it out on Channel 4, it was the perfect injection of lighthearted telly for January!
